The Hand Sculpted House

In nine intensive days, we'll practice many cob building techniques including arches, sculptural details, shelving, furniture and earthen floors. Our best complete cob building course, we'll take the ground from under your feet and turn it into a versatile medium to sculpt a house. You will have hands on construction of cob and bale cob walls, roofing, foundations, earthen plasters, and installation of doors and windows. We will also discuss siting and design, and how to incorporate artistic details in your structure.

The project will be a small start to finish tiny cottage on a local friends land (the first of many for her).  Your experience during this course can skill you enough to build yourself a cob house, but another focus is on learning to develop an independent, natural lifestyle.

You will stay onsite at Cob Cottage Company in Coquille and travel to a local jobsite daily.  We live in cob cottages in the rainforest, eat from the garden, compost their wastes, heat exclusively with Rocket Mass Heaters, drink from the creek, read the skies, and have been completely off grid for decades. You will experience "off grid" living first hand during your stay.

You'll leave confident enough to build a cob cottage of your own! In the past 20 years, Cob Cottage Company has taught these workshops all over the world. Our alumni now live in beautiful cob houses they have built at little cost, snug against the cold and cool in the summer. Most natural building instructors in North America were trained by us or by our trainees.

Space is limited to allow personalized, hands-on instruction.

Join us for an experience that will change your life!
