This is an essential companion course to the Complete Cob Course. You¹ve learned how to build an earthen home; now you need to design it. Here are analytical and practical tools for you. Learn to examine and define the elements of natural order that good living space requires. Exercises will include hands-on work with cob, earthen plasters, local materials, etc.

Design is simply the arrangement of places, people, nature. Nature¹s order, or design, follows wind, water, light, hunger, etc. We know such order because we are ordered. So design is just doing what you already know. The aim of the course is to help you align your doing and your desires.

INSTRUCTION: All learn; all teach. Bob Theis is a Bay area architect specializing in straw bale and natural materials. After working with Christopher Alexander (A Pattern Language) & Dan Smith Associates, he returned to individual practice in 2001. Kiko Denzer is an Oregon sculptor, builder, and teacher with more than a decade of experience in cob and other natural materials. www.BobTheis.net; www.intabas.com/kikodenzer.html.
