Description:

Is cob for you? Find out in this intensive introduction to building with cob. Learn at the source of the cob revival and the oldest natural building school in North America, with nearly 20 unique cob structures on site! Learn, hands on, the basics of mixing and building with cob (and also learn the things to avoid!). Bring samples of your soil and have them evaluated by highly experienced cob builders.

Tour the site and its cob buildings with an opportunity to examine, touch and ask questions about the many examples of foundation systems, living roofs, compact home design, earthen floors, natural finishes, windows, doors, niches, sculpted-in furniture, and rocket mass heaters. See the comprehensive use of natural, as well as salvaged and recycled materials in construction of minimal-cost structures. Learn from many examples of careful site selection and effective passive solar design. And get to meet and learn from two of the resident founders of Cob Cottage Company and the Natural Building movement, Linda Smiley and Ianto Evans.
